Sheikh Rashid Distances Himself from PTI's November 24 Protest Call

Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, the leader of the Awami Muslim League, has appealed to Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir for leniency towards individuals involved in the current political unrest, specifically asking for the innocent to be pardoned. Speaking ahead of his hearing related to the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case, Sheikh Rashid reiterated his willingness to face punishment if proven guilty but stressed that innocent individuals should not be punished.

He emphasized that there are around 150 accused in the case and maintained his innocence, stating, “If someone can prove my involvement in the case, I am ready to face the consequences.” Rashid directly addressed General Munir, urging for the forgiveness of the innocent and suggesting that politicians, including himself, should be allowed to go through the legal process.

Reflecting on his recent detention, which included 40 days in solitary confinement, he described the experience as particularly challenging. Rashid also voiced his continued support for former Prime Minister Imran Khan but clarified that he had no involvement in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s upcoming November 24 protest, denying any connection or presence at related events.

In his comments, Sheikh Rashid also criticized the government for prioritizing foreign trips over addressing domestic inflation, which he described as placing undue hardship on the public. He called for political stability and a better relationship between politicians and the military, emphasizing that he had never spoken against the army and was committed to seeing the country move forward.

Rashid concluded his remarks by advocating for a general amnesty for the innocent, calling for accountability while seeking greater political and national stability.
