GSC Game World has launched S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, a post-apocalyptic shooter set in a fictionalized Chernobyl exclusion zone. The game’s development faced disruptions as the Russian invasion forced staff to flee Ukraine or join the army.

Despite the challenges, CEO Ievgen Grygorovych said the war did not affect the creative process, with employees collaborating online. The game reflects Ukrainian culture with a more introspective tone compared to international shooter games.

GSC, which has sold 15 million S.T.A.L.K.E.R. copies, showcased the sequel at Gamescom 2023.
