Trump confirms Microsoft in talks to acquire TikTok

Trump

Former US President Donald Trump has confirmed that Microsoft is once again in discussions to acquire TikTok, the popular social media platform with about 170 million American users. Trump revealed the news while emphasizing a competitive bidding process for the app, citing national security concerns tied to its Chinese parent company, ByteDance.

Trump stated, β€œWe’re going to have a lot of people bidding on it,” reiterating the goal of keeping China out of TikTok’s US operations. This follows earlier failed talks between Microsoft and ByteDance in 2020, with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella calling those negotiations β€œthe strangest thing I’ve ever worked on.”

Other potential buyers, including Elon Musk and Perplexity AI, have shown interest. However, no official offers have been confirmed.

TikTok’s future remains uncertain as Trump’s previous executive order gives ByteDance 75 days to divest its US operations or face a ban. A final decision is expected within 30 days.
