Tesla has put deliveries of its much-anticipated Cybertruck on hold as the company addresses an issue with the vehicle’s decorative trim, known as the cantrail. According to Electrek, Tesla has initiated a “containment hold” after reports emerged that the cantrail trim, which covers the roof ledge above the door, was detaching and flying off in some instances. While customers awaiting delivery have been informed of delays, Tesla has not explicitly confirmed the trim issue as the cause to all affected customers.
A “containment hold” is a precautionary measure used by automakers to address potential defects or quality concerns before vehicles reach customers. In this case, Tesla’s concern with the cantrail trim may result in delivery delays of several weeks, depending on the extent of the problem.

The cantrail trim issue had been raised in previous complaints to federal authorities, with some reports suggesting the trim is attached with glue that may not be securing it properly. A YouTube video from over a month ago highlighted similar concerns, further drawing attention to quality control issues with the Cybertruck. This is not the first time the Cybertruck has faced trim-related challenges; last year, Tesla recalled over 11,000 trucks due to improperly adhered trunk bed trim.
Since its official launch in December 2023, the Cybertruck has been recalled seven times. Despite these setbacks, Tesla sold approximately 40,000 units in 2024, though production delays have impacted delivery schedules. Additionally, reports suggest that some Cybertrucks are piling up on used car lots, and the vehicle has become a target for graffiti and vandalism, partly due to Elon Musk’s controversial advisory role in the Trump administration.
