A significant relief package for electricity consumers is being proposed, with a request for a Rs. 51.49 billion reduction submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
This request, made by power distribution companies, is part of the third quarterly adjustment, and NEPRA is set to review it on April 29.

The proposal outlines several ways to deliver relief: Rs. 47.12 billion would be passed on to consumers through cuts in capacity payments, while Rs. 2.04 billion would come from improved transmission and distribution efficiency.
Additionally, Rs. 1.80 billion would be saved through reduced use-of-system charges and marketing fees, and Rs. 170 million from fixed cost recovery adjustments.
Earlier, in the second quarter of the current fiscal year, consumers benefited from a Rs. 56.38 billion relief package, which lowered electricity costs by Rs. 1.90 per unit. NEPRA will also consider a request for a Rs. 0.03 per unit reduction in March’s fuel adjustment charges during the same hearing.
