Anurag Kashyap in trouble over remark on Brahmin community

Anurag Kashyap

Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is facing legal action after making a controversial comment about the Brahmin community, triggering outrage just days before the release of the caste-themed film Phule.

A complaint was filed by BJP’s Ashutosh J. Dubey, calling the filmmaker’s remark hate speech and demanding FIR registration. Kashyap had responded to an online troll with: β€œBrahmin pe main mootoonga… koi problem?” sparking political backlash and condemnation from Union Minister Satish Chandra Dubey.

While Kashyap refused to retract the comment, he apologised for the impact on his family, saying they’ve faced rape and death threats. He appealed to critics to target him alone and spare his loved ones.

The controversy has reignited debates on free speech and caste sensitivity, especially with Phule now postponed to 25 April amid certification delays and protests from Brahmin groups.
