Mianwali Declared High-Risk Area Due to Rising Drug and Terrorism Threats

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Shehzad Asif Khan has highlighted that Mianwali has become one of Pakistan’s most sensitive districts due to the rising threats from cross-border terrorism and drug trafficking.

He voiced serious concerns about the growing prevalence of synthetic drugs like methamphetamine (ice) and “ghubeka,” stressing the need for urgent and effective measures to tackle the issue.

During his visit to inspect border checkpoints in the region, RPO Asif identified areas such as Dara Tang, Jinnah Barrage, Chashma Barrage, Makarwal Police Station, Chahri, and Isakhel as highly vulnerable to narcotics smuggling and terrorist activities.

He condemned the spread of misleading narratives following recent anti-terror operations in Makarwal, arguing that such comments undermine the morale of law enforcement officers and embolden criminals.

“The operation in Makarwal was a critical and dangerous mission. We are collaborating closely with the local community to ensure their safety. With public support, we are committed to eliminating terrorism at its core,” he stated.

RPO Shehzad Asif made these comments during a public meeting (khuli kutchery), where he heard citizens’ concerns and issued immediate instructions for resolution. District Police Officer (DPO) Captain (retd) Muhammad Ajmal accompanied him during the session.

The majority of complaints received during the session were related to motorcycle thefts, robberies, and property disputes.

SP Investigations Badr Munir, DSP Sadar Kamran Zahoor, and relevant SHOs were also present at the meeting.

RPO Shehzad Asif emphasized the importance of police officers maintaining respectful behavior with the public and addressing complaints with professionalism and integrity.
