Widespread rain and strong winds swept across several parts of Pakistan on Sunday, offering much-needed respite from an unrelenting heatwave that had gripped the country in recent weeks, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Regions including upper Sindh, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan witnessed scattered showers, while parts of Balochistan also experienced rainfall and isolated thunderstorms. Despite these cooler conditions, temperatures remained high in many areas earlier in the day, with Turbat recording a scorching 45°C and Dadu, Jacobabad, Sibi, and Mohenjo Daro all hitting 44°C.

The change in weather was especially welcomed in Punjab, where intense storms and gusty winds finally broke the prolonged spell of extreme heat. In cities like Lahore and Islamabad, the rainfall cooled temperatures considerably, with Lahore seeing a notable drop to 22°C overnight.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised caution, warning that the risk of lightning remains elevated in storm-affected areas. Meteorologists predict that the rainy conditions will likely persist into the day, providing further relief to parched regions.
