Lahore police have approached the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) seeking permission to conduct polygraph and photographic tests on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in connection with the May 9 violence cases. The prosecution argued that these tests are crucial for furthering the investigation into the incidents that followed Khan’s arrest in 2023.
The plea emphasized that Khan’s cooperation is vital to uncover the truth and help identify those responsible for attacks on sensitive state installations during the unrest. According to the prosecution, the tests will assist in piecing together the chain of events and holding the correct individuals accountable.

However, Barrister Salman Safdar, legal counsel for Imran Khan, strongly opposed the application, describing it as politically motivated and legally unsound. He argued that bringing forth such a request two years after the incident indicates malice and is aimed at harassing the PTI founder rather than serving the interests of justice.
The May 9 cases revolve around violent protests and damage to military and public properties after Khan’s dramatic arrest. The PTI leadership has consistently claimed the protests were spontaneous and that the cases have been used as a tool to stifle the party politically.
