Pakistan has achieved a major breakthrough in digital inclusion, with nearly eight million women gaining mobile internet access in 2024, marking an unprecedented increase in female digital connectivity.
State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, announced these statistics on Thursday, highlighting a significant reduction in the digital gender gap. The disparity in internet usage between men and women has decreased from 38% to 25%, representing a substantial step forward in achieving digital equality.
“This achievement is a testament to the Prime Minister’s digital vision and the government’s dedicated initiatives to empower women through technology,” the minister stated.
She stressed that promoting women’s digital inclusion continues to be a priority for the Ministry of IT, with special efforts focused on enhancing connectivity in rural and underserved areas. The rise in internet access among women in remote and less developed regions has been crucial in closing the gender gap, she added.
“We are devoted to ensuring that women become equal contributors to the nation’s digital progress. Empowering women through improved connectivity is not merely a policy objective — it is a national mission,” Ms. Khawaja affirmed.
