John Brenkus, the Emmy-winning mind behind Sports Science, has died at the age of 54 after a long struggle with depression, his family confirmed Sunday.
Brenkus had spoken openly about his mental health battles, including surviving a suicide attempt in 2023. His groundbreaking show Sports Science combined athleticism with physics and biomechanics, earning six Emmys and acclaim for making science entertaining and accessible.

Launching in 2007, the show produced over 1,800 segments, analyzing everything from NFL sprints to unusual athletic feats. Brenkus later revived the series on his own platform and remained a respected voice in sports media.
