Pakistan and ADB Sign $800 Million Agreement to Drive Economic Reforms

Pakistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have finalized a significant financial assistance package valued at $800 million to support the country’s ongoing economic reforms and improve fiscal resource management, according to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The package includes a $300 million loan agreement formally signed between the Pakistani government and ADB, along with a $500 million policy-based guarantee provided by ADB, totaling $800 million in support.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division, representing Pakistan, while Emma Fan, ADB’s Country Director, signed on behalf of the bank.

The official statement highlighted that the program aims to boost resource efficiency through structural reforms, which are central to Pakistan’s broader efforts toward economic recovery and stabilization.

“This collaboration with ADB demonstrates the international community’s trust in Pakistan’s reform initiatives and its capacity for sustainable economic growth,” said the spokesperson.

Notably, the ADB had approved the $800 million funding package just a day earlier, helping to strengthen Pakistan’s external reserves after a five-day postponement of the board meeting initially planned for the previous week.
