LHC Delays Decision on Reopening Vape Shops

The Lahore High Court on Monday refused to issue an immediate order for the reopening of vape and e-cigarette shops sealed under the Punjab government’s recent ban, opting instead to seek a response from key provincial authorities.

The court was hearing a petition filed by traders affected by the crackdown, who argued that the federal government allows the legal import of vape products and that their businesses were compliant with all customs duties. They termed the Punjab government’s unilateral ban a violation of their constitutional right to lawful business.

Petitioners also contended that the ban was imposed without any legal framework or compensation mechanism for licensed traders. They urged the court to intervene, citing the lack of due process.

However, the judge declined the request for immediate relief, noting that a comprehensive hearing with input from the Punjab chief secretary, home secretary, and CCPO is necessary before making a decision. Notices have been issued, and the next hearing will be scheduled after the respondents submit their replies.
