Ritika Sajdeh, wife of former Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma, has sparked online controversy after calling Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal a “cartoon” during a recent appearance on a YouTube talk show.
The incident occurred during a light-hearted segment where the show’s hosts presented photos of Indian cricketers and asked Rohit and Ritika to share their first impressions. When Shikhar Dhawan’s picture was shown, Rohit responded with “Jatt.” However, when Chahal’s photo came up, Ritika quickly remarked, “Cartoon. He’s usually like a cartoon,” while Rohit remained silent.

Although meant humorously, the comment didn’t sit well with many fans. A clip of the moment quickly went viral on X (formerly Twitter), drawing criticism from users who felt it was disrespectful toward Chahal. One post asked, “Is this how Rohit Sharma’s wife shows respect to a fellow Indian cricketer?” Some even compared the situation to how Anushka Sharma would be treated had she made a similar remark.
Social media users lashed out at Ritika’s comment, with some calling it “unnecessary” and “disgraceful.” Others demanded an apology and reminded celebrities to be more mindful when discussing peers in public. One user wrote, “Public figures should speak responsibly — this was uncalled for.”
Chahal, known for his cheerful demeanor and humorous personality on and off the pitch, has not responded publicly to the remark.
Ritika, who works as a sports manager, has yet to address the backlash. Neither Rohit Sharma nor the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a statement on the matter so far.
