Punjab Ends Sehat Card Services at Government Hospitals

The Punjab government has officially decided to end Sehat Card services in public hospitals starting June 30.

In a notice sent to medical superintendents across the province, the Sehat Card Company directed the discontinuation of all medical services offered under the existing Sehat Card scheme — a health insurance initiative originally introduced during the PTI government.

Going forward, patients will be treated under a newly launched healthcare program initiated by the Punjab chief minister. The revamped initiative replaces the previous universal Sehat Card with specialized cards tailored for specific treatments. These include separate cards for cornea, cochlear, and bone marrow transplants, as well as for dialysis, kidney, and liver procedures.

Moreover, a new Child Card Surgery program has been introduced to provide heart surgeries for children exclusively.

Health department officials assured that, although the Sehat Card program is being phased out in public hospitals, medical care will continue seamlessly under the new scheme, which aims to offer more focused and specialized healthcare services across the province.
