Actors John Cena and Idris Elba star in the new action-comedy film Heads of State, now streaming on Prime Video.
The film features Cena as Will Derringer, a Hollywood action star who becomes the President of the United States. Elba plays Sam Clarke, a grumpy British Prime Minister and former army veteran. The two heads of state are caught in a tense public rivalry that threatens the special bond between their nations.
However, the plot takes a turn when both leaders are targeted by a powerful enemy. With their own security teams failing, the heads of state are left with no choice but to trust each other. Forced to work together, their journey turns into a wild mix of chaos, action, and unexpected friendship.
This isn’t the first time Cena and Elba have shared the screen. They previously appeared together in the 2021 film The Suicide Squad. Speaking at the London premiere of Heads of State, Cena praised their on-screen chemistry. “He brings the best out of me,” Cena said. “I try to create a space where we both shine.”
The film is directed by Russian filmmaker Ilya Naishuller. He described the characters as the perfect mix of an optimistic American president and a realistic British prime minister. “They argue like a great comedy duo,” he said.
Naishuller added that he wanted to bring back the fun of classic buddy-action movies from the 1980s and ’90s. His goal was to create a fast-paced, entertaining film that audiences could enjoy from home.
The cast also includes Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Noel Bisset, a witty top MI6 agent. “It was fun doing comedy for a change,” she said, adding that she loved the pun-filled script.
Heads of State is available for streaming on Prime Video starting July 2.
