Explosion at California Fireworks Warehouse

An explosion occurred at a fireworks warehouse in Esparto, California, on Tuesday, July 1, at 6 p.m. Local authorities have confirmed that seven individuals remain missing.

The incident happened near County Road 23 and County Road 86A. Officials said the warehouse belonged to Devastating Pyrotechnics, a fireworks company.

A video recording captured the moment the warehouse burst into flames. The California footage showed a large fireball and rising smoke. It was widely shared on news platforms and social media.

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office said in a public post that the warehouse “continues to burn” and poses safety risks. Fire Chief Curtis Lawrence reported “multiple buildings involved” and “numerous spot fires” at the scene.

Authorities said unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) were deployed to monitor hazards and support the investigation.The explosion’s cause is still under investigation, led by the Cal Fire Office of the State Fire Marshal.

A second video clip released by NBC News showed the aftermath of the explosion, with ongoing flames and emergency response in progress.

In a public statement, Devastating Pyrotechnics said: “Our hearts and thoughts are with those we lost, their families, and everyone impacted in our community.”

Mary Vixie-Sandy, Chair of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, stated that officials are working to support ongoing search and recovery efforts. She urged residents to avoid the evacuation zone for safety.

Angel Barajas, Supervisor for District 5, added: “Our thoughts remain especially with the families of the seven individuals still unaccounted for.” The scene remains active and hazardous, with explosions continuing throughout the afternoon and evening, according to the latest county update.Emergency crews and investigators continue their work as the Esparto community awaits further updates on the missing individuals.
