Israeli Strikes Kill 35 in Gaza Amid Ceasefire Talks and Rising Tensions

At least 35 Palestinians have been killed since dawn on Saturday as Israeli airstrikes intensified across the Gaza Strip, coinciding with ongoing ceasefire negotiations. Local hospital officials reported multiple casualties, including civilians awaiting aid, as attacks targeted densely populated areas and shelter sites.

Among the dead were seven members of a single family in al-Mawasi, where a tent housing displaced civilians was struck. In central Gaza’s Maghazi refugee camp, two people were killed in an air raid on a family home, while another strike in Gaza’s az-Zarqa neighborhood claimed one life and left several injured. At least five people were also killed when a school sheltering civilians was bombed.

Observers noted the familiar pattern of escalated bombardment just as Hamas issued a positive response to a proposed ceasefire agreement. The draft, brokered by the United States, outlines a 60-day halt in hostilities and includes key humanitarian and political measures.

According to reports, the ceasefire would see Hamas release 10 Israeli hostages and the remains of 18 others on the first day of the truce. In return, Israel would suspend all offensive military activity, pause aerial surveillance for 10 hours each day, and allow increased humanitarian aid into Gaza via UN and Red Crescent channels.

In a related development, an Israeli drone strike hit Shebaa in southern Lebanon near the volatile tri-border area with Syria and Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Details on casualties from that strike remain unclear.
