Karachi Confirms First Dengue Death of the Year 2025

Karachi has reported its first dengue-related death of 2025, according to the Sindh Health Department. The victim was a 48-year-old woman from the city’s East district.

Health officials said she was admitted to Aga Khan University Hospital on July 23 after showing symptoms of dengue fever. Laboratory tests later confirmed that she had been infected with the dengue virus.

Doctors treating her said she also had other health problems, including diabetes and a urinary tract infection (UTI). These conditions may have worsened the effects of the mosquito-borne illness. She passed away on Thursday, due to complications linked to the disease.

This is the first confirmed dengue death in Sindh this year. So far, 345 cases have been reported across the province, with Karachi accounting for the majority of them. The data highlights growing concerns about the spread of the disease as monsoon season continues.

Dengue is a viral infection carried by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. In Pakistan, the number of cases usually rises during the rainy season when stagnant water creates ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The health department has urged people to take precautionary measures. These include:

Avoiding standing water in and around homes.
Using mosquito repellents and nets.
Making sure homes and public spaces are regularly fumigated.

Officials warned that early symptoms of dengue include high fever, headache, joint pain, and rash. Anyone showing these signs should seek medical care immediately.

Public health experts are calling for more awareness campaigns, better sanitation, and increased access to diagnostic services, especially in high-risk urban areas.

Hospitals across Karachi have also been asked to stay alert and report any suspected cases promptly.

As Karachi confirms its first dengue fatality of 2025, authorities are working to prevent further loss of life by controlling the spread of the virus and urging the public to stay cautious.
