Model and actor Hania Aamir recently went viral after sharing a video of herself riding a bike on a public road without wearing a helmet. While the clip was posted as a moment of carefree fun, it drew sharp criticism from social activist Shaniera Akram, wife of former cricketer Wasim Akram.
Shaniera Akram, known for her years of campaigning for road safety in Pakistan, called the stunt both “illegal” and “reckless.” She warned that such behaviour can set a dangerous example for fans and could cost lives.
Reposting the video on her Instagram story, Shaniera wrote, “I’ve worked for years with hospitals and doctors to promote helmet use in Pakistan.
This is like a dagger to my heart.” She stressed that celebrities have a strong influence over millions of followers and should use that influence responsibly.
Shaniera Akram also shared that she has personally witnessed the deadly consequences of similar road stunts. She clarified that her remarks were not a personal attack on Hania Aamir, but rather a plea to raise awareness. “If my comment can make even one person think twice, it’s worth it,” she said.
Blunt in her message, she added, “It’s not rocket science — it’s against the law, and it’s stupid.”
The incident has sparked an online debate about the responsibilities of public figures and their role in promoting safety. Many social media users voiced their support for Shaniera’s stance, agreeing that road safety should be prioritised over social media trends.
