Social media is often criticized for its filters, edits, and misleading portrayals. A recent case in Egypt has highlighted this issue after a shocking revelation about a popular TikTok influencer.
One of Egypt’s most-followed female creators, Yasmin, has been unmasked as an 18-year-old male student. The revelation stunned millions of followers who believed they were watching glamorous dance videos of a young woman.
The truth came out after police received numerous complaints regarding Yasmin’s bold and viral videos. Authorities summoned the influencer for questioning, where it was revealed that behind the screen was Abdul Rahman, a teenager from a small Egyptian village.

During interrogation, Abdul Rahman confessed that he created the persona of Yasmin to attract followers and earn money through social media. His admission left his community and fans in disbelief, as many had admired and interacted with the account without knowing its reality.
Following the confession, the court ordered Abdul Rahman into custody for four days before later releasing him on bail. Officials confirmed that he faces charges of impersonating a woman and sharing immoral content online.
Neighbors and acquaintances described him as a quiet and ordinary student, enrolled at a tourism and hotel management institute. The contrast between his real identity and the online persona of Yasmin has intensified public debate in Egypt.
Authorities have stated that the case is part of their ongoing crackdown on immoral behavior on social platforms. The incident has also reignited discussions on the dangers of online deception and the extent to which people can go for fame and financial gain.
