Pakistani judoka Malaika Noor has made history by winning a silver medal at the Asian Open Judo Championship 2025. With this achievement, she has become the first Pakistani woman to secure a medal at an Asian-level judo competition.
Competing in the minus 52kg category, the 20-year-old displayed outstanding skill and determination throughout the tournament. She defeated opponents from three different countries, including a crucial semi-final victory over Jordan’s Raneem Aljazazi.
In the final, Malaika Noor fought with grit but narrowly lost to her Saudi opponent in a close contest, finishing with a silver medal. Despite the loss, her achievement is being celebrated across Pakistan as a historic moment for women in sports.
Pakistan Judo Federation President Col. Junaid Alam praised her accomplishment, calling it a proud milestone for the country. He emphasized that her success will inspire more young women to take up sports professionally.
Malaika Noor has been a rising star in Pakistan’s judo scene. She previously represented the country at the World Junior Judo Championship in Dushanbe, where she also delivered a commendable performance. Her consistent progress on both national and international stages highlights her potential for future success.
Other Pakistani athletes also showcased promising performances at the championship in Amman. Noor Khan (60kg) advanced to the pre-quarterfinals after defeating Jordan’s Mohammad Almashaqbeh but lost to Burundi’s Raoul Brillant Nganji.
Muhammad Abbas Khalil (73kg) overcame Jordan’s Khader Alwraikat before being knocked out by Lebanon’s Ghady Moussa.
Additionally, a 17-year-old debutant from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa impressed by winning his first international bout against Jordan’s Mohammad Almseden, though he was later eliminated by Bahrain’s R. Poltoratskii.
While they missed out on podium finishes, their performances reflect Pakistan’s growing presence in international judo, with Malaika Noor’s silver medal marking a new era of achievement for the sport.
