Jaswinder Bhalla, one of the most beloved comedians in Punjabi cinema, passed away on Friday at the age of 65. Hospital officials confirmed that he was admitted to Fortis Hospital and died early in the morning. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday at Balongi crematorium in Mohali.
Bhalla’s career in comedy spanned nearly three decades, earning him recognition for his sharp timing and memorable characters. He first gained attention through stage shows and comedy albums during the 1980s and 1990s before transitioning into films.
He made his acting debut in movies like band Jaspal Bhatti’s Hindi satire Mahaul Theek Hai (1999). Over the years, Jaswinder Bhalla became a regular in Punjabi blockbusters such as Jatt & Juliet, Sardarji, and the Carry On Jatta series. His role as Advocate Dhillon in the Carry On Jatta franchise made him a household name.
Known for his witty one-liners and catchphrases, Bhalla elevated even minor roles with his comedic talent. His contributions played a significant part in popularizing Punjabi comedy and influencing new actors in the industry.
Bhalla is survived by his wife, Paramdeep, a fine arts teacher based in Chandigarh, and their son, Pukhraj Bhalla, who is also an actor. The father-son duo shared the screen in the 2013 film Stupid 7.
