Singer-songwriter Rachel Platten has announced a major project inspired by Taylor Swift’s approach to reclaiming her music. Platten revealed that she will release Fight Song (Rachel’s Version) along with other tracks from her 2016 album Wildfire.
Taking to Instagram, Platten shared, “I’m proud to announce that on 9/26, I’m releasing a new album with my own ‘Rachel’s Versions’ of Fight Song, Stand By You, and other songs from my album Wildfire.” She added that the album will also include live tracks and a surprise from the vault.
Platten explained that revisiting her songs is about reclaiming her music rather than changing it. “Now, as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Fight Song, I’ve gone back to some of my originals, not to change them, but to reclaim them,” she wrote. The new versions are infused with her current voice, experience, and pride in owning her masters.
She also expressed gratitude to Taylor Swift, whose Taylor’s Versions highlighted the importance of artists owning their work. Platten said, “I’m grateful to @TaylorSwift for bringing this conversation to light and empowering artists to take back control over their work, their stories, and their futures.”
Platten thanked the original producer of Wildfire, Jon Levine, for collaborating again on the re-recordings. She also acknowledged her fans for supporting her over the years, saying, “I can’t wait for you to hear them again—this time, fully, completely, and unapologetically mine.”
