Sutlej River Floods: 72 Villages in Kasur Submerged as Waters Rise Dangerously

Sutlej River Floods 72 Villages in Kasur Submerged as Waters Rise Dangerously

The Sutlej River has risen to dangerous levels, causing severe flooding across parts of Punjab. Dozens of villages are submerged, while protective embankments have broken in several areas, including Bheri Pir. Authorities have declared a high alert as more inflows are expected in the coming hours.

According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the water flow at Head Ganda Singh Barrage has surged to 253,000 cusecs. The riverโ€™s water level has reached 22.99 feet, putting nearby settlements at extreme risk.

In Kasur district alone, at least 72 villages have been badly affected by the flood. Water has entered homes, farmland, and marketplaces, forcing many residents to abandon their houses.

With no proper shelter available, several families are now spending nights under the open sky.

Rescue operations are underway across the flood-hit areas. Teams from Rescue 1122, police, and revenue departments worked late into the night to evacuate stranded people. Boats and emergency vehicles have been deployed to move families to safer locations.

Military personnel have also joined the relief efforts. The Pakistan Army is assisting local authorities in evacuations and distributing essential supplies.

Deputy Commissioner Kasur assured residents that the administration stands with them in this crisis. He added that food, shelter, and medical support will be provided to all affected families.

Officials have warned that the situation may worsen if water levels in the Sutlej River continue to rise. People living near embankments and low-lying areas have been advised to relocate immediately. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and remain on high alert.

The Sutlej River flooding highlights the ongoing challenge of managing heavy monsoon rains and upstream water releases. Disaster management teams have urged the public to follow safety instructions and cooperate with rescue workers to avoid further loss.
