Rihanna has marked 20 years since the release of her first studio album, Music of the Sun. The 37-year-old global superstar reflected on her journey from Barbados to becoming one of the world’s most influential artists.
In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram and X, Rihanna said she left her home country, family, and culture to pursue music. She recalled how her career began with the release of her debut record in 2005.
“So many of you have been with me since the very beginning, while others joined later. I am forever grateful,” Rihanna wrote. “Each of you played a very crucial role in where this journey has taken me so far.”
Music of the Sun included the hit single Pon de Replay, which reached number two on both the UK Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100. Signed under Jay-Z’s label at the time, the young singer quickly became an international name.
The Diamonds hitmaker thanked her fans for what she described as “the greatest first 20 years ever.” She highlighted the loyalty of her fan base, her hardworking teams, and the constant support of her family.
To mark the milestone, Rihanna announced exclusive merchandise and a vinyl boxed set of her debut album available on her official website.
Since her second album A Girl Like Me, Rihanna has released eight studio albums. Over her career, she has earned nine Grammy Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, and nominations for both the Oscars and Golden Globes.
