Channing Tatum has spoken candidly about his difficult divorce from Jenna Dewan, revealing the most painful part was being separated from his daughter.
In a recent interview with Variety, the 45-year-old actor described the six-year-long legal battle as “terrifying” and “painful.” He admitted the toughest part of the split was not being able to have his daughter Everly with him all the time.
Channing Tatum and Dewan married in 2009 but announced their separation in 2018. Their divorce proceedings stretched on for years, largely due to financial and custody negotiations.
The Magic Mike star explained that while he and Dewan are now on good terms, the process was incredibly hard on him as a father. “It’s really tough not to have your daughter half the time. I wish I could just have her all the time,” he confessed.
During the interview, Tatum was asked whether his new role in the film Roofman—playing a convicted robber estranged from his daughter—was emotionally difficult. He replied that he could connect to the character because of his own real-life experiences.
Reflecting on the early years of his marriage, Tatum said, “We tried to keep it together for a year and a half, but we knew it was falling apart. It was a painful break, especially being so young.”
He admitted that differences in parenting styles also made the split clearer. “When you’re parents, you really understand how different you are. It screams at you every day,” he explained.
Looking back, Channing Tatum described the separation as “super scary,” saying it felt like his entire life plan slipped away. Despite the challenges, he stressed that he and Dewan have moved forward and remain focused on raising their daughter.
