Irish actor Cillian Murphy has responded to long-running speculation about his possible role as Lord Voldemort in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series. The discussion around his potential casting has gained wide attention over the past year.
Ever since the series adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novels was announced, Murphy’s name has been strongly linked with the role of the Dark Lord. Fans even pointed out that Ralph Fiennes, who played Voldemort in the original films, once backed him as a suitable replacement. This support further fueled the Cillian Murphy Voldemort rumors.
Until now, the Oppenheimer star had stayed quiet on the matter. Speaking recently on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he dismissed the reports.
“No,” Murphy said when asked directly about the role. He added that his children occasionally show him stories about the rumors, but he has no involvement in the project.
The actor also made light of the speculation by joking that he is “very attached” to his nose, a reference to Voldemort’s distinctive appearance.
On a more serious note, Murphy praised Ralph Fiennes, calling him “an absolute acting legend” and admitting it would be difficult for anyone to step into that role.
Meanwhile, the much-anticipated HBO series has already revealed its main cast. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The series is planned for release in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max.
Despite the buzz, it is now clear that Murphy will not be taking part in the show. His comments put an end to months of speculation, though the mystery of who will portray Voldemort remains.
