FBR Targets 100,000 Wealthy Social Media Users Flaunting Lavish Lifestyles

FBR Targets 100,000 Wealthy Social Media Users Flaunting Lavish Lifestyles

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has started a major crackdown on wealthy individuals who showcase their extravagant lifestyles on social media platforms.

Officials confirmed that data on more than 100,000 people has been collected, focusing on those flaunting luxury homes, expensive cars, high-end jewellery, and lavish weddings. Authorities warned that anyone failing to update their income tax returns will face strict legal action.

Wealthy under close watch

According to officials, individuals posting videos and photos of luxury lifestyles are under careful observation. Big mansions, luxury vehicles, and even wedding outfits worth up to $20,000 have raised red flags. FBR emphasized that such displays must match the income declared in official tax filings.

Data collection and tax audits

The FBR’s social media monitoring team has compiled extensive records of individuals suspected of living far beyond their reported earnings. Authorities will compare last year’s income tax returns with this year’s submissions to detect discrepancies.

Sources revealed that nearly 80% of all returns will be audited. Those hiding assets, properties, or income sources will be required to explain the difference. Strict action is planned against anyone failing to declare increased wealth or income in their annual returns.

Extravagant weddings in focus

The crackdown is also targeting lavish weddings, where individuals are seen showcasing expensive jewellery, designer suits, and large-scale spending. Officials stressed that these expenses must be reflected in updated returns, otherwise, legal proceedings will follow.

Clear warning from FBR

Authorities clarified that individuals who file accurate and updated information in their tax returns will not face penalties. However, those failing to disclose luxury assets and spending risk facing serious legal consequences.

The FBR urged citizens to update their income details on time to avoid complications. β€œNothing will be said to those who submit correct and updated tax information,” officials stated.
