K-Electric (KE) is actively cracking down on electricity theft in Karachiβs Sadr area, carrying out 38 drives this year. These operations have removed over 1,300 illegal connections weighing more than 1,700 kilogrammes. The drives have saved around 1.45 million units of electricity, reducing the impact of theft on the areaβs loss profile.
Thanks to these efforts, KE has maintained 88 percent of its feeder network in Sadr completely load-shed free. This supports the cityβs commercial hubs, including Cantt Station, Civil Lines, Sadr Bazaar, Bolton Market, I.I. Chundrigar Road, and Shahrah-e-Faisal.
In addition to removal drives, KE has conducted 56 customer facilitation camps, including mini camps in Sadr. These camps assist residents in clearing pending electricity dues, resolving complaints, and switching to legal electricity connections.
Khurram Abdullah, KEβs Head of Distribution Operations, said, βWe are cracking down on illegal connections to reduce electricity loss and create a safer environment for residents. Such connections bypass safety protocols, posing risks to both KEβs infrastructure and citizens, especially during monsoon season.β
Despite these efforts, certain areas still face challenges. Bizerta Lines, Hijrat Colony, Railway Colony, and Sultanabad have higher incidences of theft and outstanding dues totaling Rs1.1 billion. These areas make it difficult for KE to maintain a fully load-shed-free status across the entire Sadr district.
The initiative reflects KEβs continued focus on operational efficiency and community safety. By cracking down on electricity theft and promoting legal connections, KE aims to ensure reliable power supply and protect the cityβs residents from hazards associated with illegal networks.
