Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is celebrating after his Netflix project Amar Singh Chamkila earned global recognition. The film has received two prestigious nominations at the International Emmy Awards 2025.
The biographical drama tells the story of Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, who rose to fame with bold songs before his tragic death. The movie has been nominated in the category of Best TV Movie/Mini-Series.
Lead actor Diljit Dosanjh has also been nominated for Best Actor, marking a major milestone in his career.
Imtiaz Ali expressed his happiness in a statement, thanking the Emmy jury for the honor. He congratulated the entire cast and crew, with special praise for Diljit. The director also acknowledged the contribution of Punjab, saying the film belongs to the land where Chamkila lived and created his music.
Released on Netflix in April 2024, the film traces Chamkila’s rise from humble beginnings to becoming a voice of the youth. His fearless lyrics won him both fame and criticism.
However, his journey ended tragically when he and his wife, Amarjot, were killed at the age of 27. Parineeti Chopra played Amarjot in the film.
