Bollywoodβs leading stars Salman Khan and Aamir Khan have ruled the industry for over three decades. Even in their late fifties, they continue to headline major films. But one topic often linked with them is the trend of senior actors being cast opposite much younger actresses.
In the premiere of Kajol and Twinkle Khannaβs new chat show Two Much, both actors addressed this subject openly. The conversation began when Kajol asked why society sees older men romancing younger women as βcinema magic,β but calls it βboldβ when older women act with younger men.
Aamir Khan explained that casting depends on the story. He shared the example of Dil Chahta Hai, where Dimple Kapadia was paired with Akshaye Khanna due to the scriptβs demand.
He stressed that filmmaking is about storytelling, not real life. According to him, the age gap in roles should look natural within the narrative.
Salman Khan, however, had a different perspective. He argued that pairing with younger actresses brings freshness to films. He said audiences have already seen senior actors with older heroines for years, and filmmakers often prefer introducing new faces opposite established stars.
Still, Salman admitted that stories rarely show reversed dynamics, where older women are cast with younger men.
The discussion soon moved toward gender norms in Bollywood and how society reacts differently to men and women in similar roles. Both actors acknowledged these differences while defending their choices as performers.
The debut episode of Two Much is already creating buzz for its candid conversations. With two of Bollywoodβs biggest names opening up on controversial industry practices, the show has set the tone for more debates in coming episodes.
