Petrol price in Pakistan may increase from October 1, 2025, as the federal government considers a new proposal. The suggestion, submitted by the petroleum industry to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), recommends a hike across multiple products.
According to sources, the proposed increase ranges from Rs 2 to Rs 4.65 per litre. Petrol price is expected to rise by Rs 2 per litre, while high-speed diesel may see a hike of Rs 2.48 per litre. Kerosene could go up by Rs 4.65 per litre, and light diesel by Rs 1.76 per litre.
The final decision will rest with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He will consult with the finance ministry before making an official announcement.
Current fuel rates
The most recent prices, as of September 16, 2025, are:
- Petrol (Super): Rs 264.61 per litre
- Diesel (High-Speed): Rs 272.77 per litre
If the new proposal is approved, consumers may face an increase in their monthly fuel expenses. Rising petrol price and higher diesel costs could also add pressure on transportation and commodity markets, leading to broader inflationary effects.
Governmentโs role in fuel pricing
In Pakistan, fuel rates are adjusted every two weeks after consultation with OGRA. The decision usually depends on global oil prices, currency exchange fluctuations, and taxation policies. Any changes in petrol price directly affect the public and can trigger debates over economic management.
As the October 1 review approaches, both households and businesses await the governmentโs final decision.
