Fuel Prices Surge: Petrol and Diesel Up Over Rs4 per Litre

Fuel Prices Surge Petrol and Diesel Up Over Rs4 per Litre

ISLAMABAD: The government has increased petrol prices and high-speed diesel (HSD) for the first fortnight of October 2025. Petrol prices rose by Rs4.07 per litre, reaching Rs268.68, while HSD increased by Rs4.04, now costing Rs276.81 per litre. The revised rates will take effect from October 1, 2025.

The price adjustment follows recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and relevant ministries. The decision was based on global oil market trends and fluctuations in the exchange rate. Officials say such revisions are necessary to align domestic fuel prices with international conditions.

Analysts warn that rising petrol prices will impact transportation costs, commuting expenses, and industrial operations. Similarly, higher HSD prices, widely used in freight and agricultural machinery, may push up the cost of essential goods. This increase comes at a time when households are already facing financial strain due to inflation.

Consumer advocates have expressed concern that repeated hikes in petrol prices could further burden urban commuters and rural farmers alike. They also warned of potential ripple effects on the prices of food, goods, and services.

The government has maintained that adjustments in petrol prices are unavoidable to ensure fuel supply sustainability and balance foreign exchange pressures. However, citizens are urged to prepare for higher transportation and daily expenses in the coming weeks.

Petrol prices remain a key economic indicator, affecting millions across Pakistan. Experts suggest monitoring future revisions closely, as global oil price volatility could lead to additional increases in the near term.
