Court Issues Arrest Warrants for Aamir Liaquat’s Ex-Wife in Defamation Case Against Yasir Shami

Court Issues Arrest Warrants for Aamir Liaquat’s Ex-Wife in Defamation Case Against Yasir Shami

A local court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Bushra Iqbal, the first wife of late MNA and TV host Aamir Liaquat Hussain. The warrants were issued after she failed to appear in court in a defamation case filed by journalist Yasir Shami.

The case began when Bushra Iqbal lodged a cybercrime complaint against Shami. However, during proceedings, she allegedly used her social media accounts to spread false propaganda, misreport case details, and make unverified accusations against him.

In response, Yasir Shami approached the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cyber Crime Wing. He demanded evidence to support the allegations and, on May 10, 2024, filed a complaint under Sections 20 and 24 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) investigated the matter for several months before submitting findings to the court. Despite repeated summonses and multiple notices, Bushra Iqbal did not comply with court orders.

Initially, the court issued bailable arrest warrants. However, after her continued absence, it escalated the action to non-bailable arrest warrants, requiring her to appear before the court on October 16.

Legal experts note that this case highlights the seriousness of cyber defamation charges in Pakistan. Authorities have stressed that online propaganda and false allegations can lead to severe consequences under the updated cybercrime laws.

The arrest warrants against Bushra Iqbal send a strong message about accountability in digital spaces, emphasizing that social media misuse for defamation will not be tolerated.
