LAHORE β The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested six senior officials of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), including the controversial Additional Director Chaudhry Sarfraz, over serious allegations of bribery and abuse of power.
According to official reports, the detained NCCIA officers are accused of running an internal bribery network and misusing their authority for personal gain. The arrest of Sarfraz, a key NCCIA officer, marks a turning point in what appears to be a major corruption scandal within the agency.
Sources claim that Sarfraz had already been suspended last month following multiple controversies. He allegedly led aggressive investigations against popular social media figures such as Ducky Bhai and Rajab Butt over accusations of unregulated online trading and gambling apps. However, questions have been raised about whether these investigations were genuine law enforcement actions or attempts at extortion.
The scandal deepened when an FIR was filed against lawyers who had tried to secure the release of a detained suspect, suggesting internal conflicts and unauthorized detentions within the cybercrime department.
Adding to the chaos, the agency had recently been under scrutiny following the mysterious disappearance of Deputy Director Muhammad Usman on October 14. Reports state that Usman was allegedly kidnapped by four armed men in an unexplained incident that has shocked the capital.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has now intervened after Usmanβs wife, Rozinaβwho had filed a petition for his recoveryβalso went missing. The court has given authorities one week to locate the missing couple and submit a detailed report.
