Pakistan Rolls Out Its First Google Chromebook Assembly Line What’s Next?

Pakistan has announced the establishment of its first Google Chromebook assembly line, a step aimed at making affordable laptops available for students and professionals across the country.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar made the announcement at a ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday, calling the initiative a β€œmomentous occasion” for Pakistan’s technology sector. While the project has been described as a β€œlaunch,” officials clarified that it marks the beginning of plans to set up a local Google Chromebook assembly facility rather than the completion of one.

Dar said the initiative would significantly benefit the education sector by lowering the cost of digital devices. He added that local assembly of Google Chromebook laptops would create jobs, strengthen supply chains, and support Pakistan’s long-term vision for technology exports.

The minister emphasized that Google’s growing role in Pakistan will help nurture innovation and entrepreneurship. He noted that the collaboration will connect local startups to global markets and boost digital literacy nationwide.

Google to Train 100,000 Developers
As part of a broader partnership, Pakistan and Google have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to train 100,000 developers across the country. The agreement also includes plans to develop AI-powered localized solutions, focusing on Android-based public safety services and smart governance tools.

Dar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a business-friendly environment for international technology firms. He said Pakistan’s digital policy aims to make the country a regional hub for innovation, supported by simplified tax structures and investment incentives.

Officials expressed optimism that the Google Chromebook assembly line will mark the beginning of stronger collaboration between Pakistan and global technology leaders, paving the way for affordable digital access and sustainable tech growth.
