Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that the 27th Constitutional Amendment will soon be tabled in Parliament after consultations with coalition partners are completed.
Speaking to the media on Friday, DPM Dar emphasized that the proposed amendment aims to strengthen the democratic structure and enhance provincial autonomy while ensuring better coordination between federal and provincial governments.
He stated that discussions with political allies are already underway to build consensus on key provisions of the amendment. βWe want to ensure that all stakeholders are on the same page before introducing the 27th Constitutional Amendment,β he said, stressing the importance of unity on national matters.
According to officials, the proposed amendment may include administrative, fiscal, and governance-related reforms designed to streamline power-sharing and improve institutional efficiency. The government aims to present the bill in the National Assembly after formal approval from its coalition partners.
Dar reiterated that the process will be transparent and inclusive, assuring that no decision will be made without mutual agreement among political allies. He added that the government remains committed to upholding the Constitution and promoting a stable and balanced federation.
Political analysts believe the 27th Amendment could become a landmark step if it successfully addresses long-standing governance challenges while preserving the spirit of federalism. They noted that prior amendments, including the 18th, significantly reshaped the power dynamics between Islamabad and the provinces, and this proposal may seek to refine those changes further.
If passed, the amendment is expected to mark another chapter in Pakistanβs constitutional evolution, reflecting the coalition governmentβs pledge to promote political inclusivity, good governance, and national harmony.
