Veteran Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon has revealed that she was originally offered the lead role in Shah Rukh Khan’s 1993 hit Darr, directed by Yash Chopra. The role, which later went to Juhi Chawla, could have been a major project for her early in her career. However, Tandon turned it down for personal reasons.
In a recent interview, Raveena Tandon shared that she was the first choice for the film and had been approached directly by the legendary filmmaker. “Darr had come to me first,” she said. “It wasn’t vulgar, but there were certain scenes that I wasn’t comfortable doing.”
The Mohra and Andaz Apna Apna star explained that during her early years in the industry, she maintained strong personal boundaries regarding on-screen intimacy. “I used to be uncomfortable with a lot of things,” she said. “I was very uncomfortable with proximity, especially with people I didn’t know well.”
Raveena Tandon further stated that her reserved attitude often led people in the industry to misjudge her personality. “I think people saw me as a little uptight. Not because I was arrogant, but because I carried myself that way. Many treated me like one of the boys,” she added with a laugh.
The actress also disclosed that she had turned down another film, Prem Qaidi, which later marked Karisma Kapoor’s debut in Bollywood. Tandon clarified that her decisions were never about fame or money but about personal comfort and principles.
