Fatima Zahra Makes History with Pakistan’s First-Ever Medal at Islamic Solidarity Games

Pakistan’s rising boxing star Fatima Zahra has etched her name in history by securing the nation’s first medal at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh after storming into the semifinals of the women’s -60 kg category.

The 27-year-old from Sargodha displayed sheer skill and determination, defeating Algeria’s Hamda Melissa in a dominant 5–0 quarterfinal victory — a win that guarantees Pakistan at least a bronze medal at the prestigious multi-nation event.

Fatima’s dominance was evident from the opening bell. With sharp jabs, precise combinations, and tactical footwork, she controlled the pace of the bout throughout. Although Melissa attempted to fight back in the later rounds, Fatima’s composure and ring intelligence ensured a clean sweep on the judges’ cards.

A Trailblazer for Pakistani Women’s Boxing

Fatima Zahra’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Since beginning her boxing career in 2018, she has risen steadily through the ranks, becoming a four-time national champion in her weight class. Her impressive resume includes representing Pakistan at the Asian Games and participating in Olympic qualifiers, making her one of the most accomplished female boxers in the country’s history.

Speaking to local media earlier this year, Fatima emphasized that her goal was not only to win medals but to “inspire young girls to step into the ring with confidence.” Her latest achievement at the Islamic Solidarity Games has undoubtedly done just that — signaling a new era for women’s boxing in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Presence at the Games

Pakistan has sent a 55-member contingent to the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, competing in various disciplines, including Athletics, Wushu, Swimming, Boxing, Fencing, Ju-Jitsu, Karate, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, and Wrestling.

While Fatima’s semifinal schedule is yet to be announced, her victory has already lifted the nation’s spirits. Her performance in Riyadh has opened the door for a new generation of female athletes determined to bring glory to Pakistan.
