US President Trump announced plans to distribute a significant portion of additional revenue from tariffs directly to American citizens. The announcement was made on his social media platform Truth Social, where he confirmed that every person, except high-income individuals, will receive at least $2,000.
According to Trump, the country is generating trillions of dollars from tariffs, and the plan will help begin paying down the nation’s $37 trillion debt. He emphasized that the scheme will benefit ordinary Americans while leaving out the wealthiest individuals.
“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER. We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion. Record Investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place. A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,” Trump wrote on X.
The announcement comes as the US Supreme Court reviews the legality of Trump’s tariff policies. Several lower courts had previously found parts of these tariffs partially unlawful. Despite legal challenges, the administration insists that tariff revenue could generate over $1 trillion annually for the country.
In October, Trump had hinted at distributing between $1,000 to $2,000 per person, emphasizing that the plan would directly reward American citizens while simultaneously strengthening the economy.
Experts note that if implemented, the dividend plan could provide financial relief to millions of Americans and stimulate consumer spending. The proposal also highlights Trump’s continued focus on using tariffs as a tool to boost domestic revenue and economic growth.
