According to media reports, the former captain would most likely take over as Chief Selector following the conclusion of the current two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

It was claimed earlier this month that Zaka Ashraf had offered Mohammad Hafeez the position of chief selector for the national team.
To that end, the recently appointed interim Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board met with the former cricketer to explore the offer.
However, it was stated that the player had not accepted the offer and had asked for more time to think about it due to other commitments.
In addition to Hafeez, other cricketers such as Younis Khan, Mohsin Khan, Saleem Yousuf, and Shoaib Akhtar were said to have received offers from the PCB.
It is worth noting that the federal government officially selected Ashraf as the chairman of the newly constituted management committee earlier this month.
This decision was made following the distribution of a summary granting the 10-member committee a four-month mandate to monitor the PCB’s business.
