Pakistani actress Meera has come under heavy criticism after publicly supporting journalist Naeem Hanif in his ongoing legal battle with actress Saba Qamar.
Sharing Hanif’s photo on her official social media account, Meera called him a “man of principle” and warned Qamar that she had “picked the wrong man to mess with.” She wrote, “Naeem Hanif is a credible figure in Pakistani media, known as a journalist, political analyst, union leader, and President of the Punjab Union of Journalists. After Case No. 9, this will be the final case.”
Meera’s post sparked widespread backlash from fans, who criticized her for taking sides in the high-profile legal battle. Many argued that public figures should refrain from influencing ongoing court proceedings. Although Meera later deleted the post, it had already generated significant attention on social media.
Pakistani actor Sehar Khan also commented on the controversy, expressing disappointment. “It’s truly disappointing to see even women in our industry supporting such harmful narratives,” he said. He added, “This mindset needs to change. Nobody has the right to spread such comments. We must stand together, not tear each other down.”
The legal battle stems from a Rs. 100 million defamation case filed by Saba Qamar against Naeem Hanif earlier this month. The case relates to alleged defamatory remarks made by Hanif during a recent podcast. Qamar claims these comments have damaged her reputation and are misleading the public.
