Asad Qaiser Says Judiciary Rendered Ineffective After 27th Amendment

Islamabad: Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has criticized the 27th Constitutional Amendment, claiming it has rendered the judiciary ineffective in Pakistan. He made the remarks while addressing a political gathering on recent legislative developments.

According to Qaiser, the amendment, which was recently passed and signed into law, has weakened the independence of the judiciary and limited its ability to function as a check on executive authority. He expressed concern that such changes could undermine the separation of powers and affect governance in the country.

โ€œThe judiciaryโ€™s effectiveness is crucial for maintaining rule of law. The 27th Amendment has, unfortunately, curtailed its authority,โ€ Qaiser stated. He urged political and legal stakeholders to review the implications of the amendment and ensure that democratic institutions remain strong and independent.

The 27th Amendment, passed amid political consensus in Parliament, introduced structural and administrative reforms aimed at governance and judicial efficiency, but critics like Qaiser argue it could have unintended consequences.
