Islamabad: Pakistan may experience up to 26% higher monsoon rains in 2026, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned. The agency issued the forecast amid concerns over flood risks, water management, and disaster preparedness.
According to NDMA, areas prone to heavy rainfall and flooding should take precautionary measures, including strengthening embankments, improving drainage systems, and preparing emergency response plans. Authorities are also coordinating with provincial governments to ensure timely alerts and relief efforts.
The warning comes as climate experts predict increasing variability in monsoon patterns, raising the risk of both urban and rural flooding. NDMA urged communities to remain vigilant and follow official guidance during the upcoming monsoon season.
Officials emphasized that proactive planning and infrastructure resilience will be crucial to minimize damage to lives, property, and agriculture in the event of unusually heavy rainfall.
