Residents in several parts of Karachi will face a temporary suspension in gas supply due to pipeline relocation work near the Nipa Flyover. The announcement was made by Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) through a social media update.
According to the company, the work will begin on Saturday, May 23, at 10:00 PM. The scheduled operation is expected to continue until Sunday, May 24, at 5:00 AM. However, officials warned that the task could extend until 8:00 AM because of technical requirements.
The gas supply interruption is linked to the relocation and lowering of a 20-inch heavy-pressure gas pipeline. The project is being carried out near the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route at Nipa. SSGC said the work is being completed on the request of Trans Karachi.
Several major areas of the city are expected to face disruption in gas supply during the shutdown period. Important institutions will also be affected by the temporary suspension.
The areas expected to face low pressure or complete suspension include all blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, PIB Colony, Jamshed Road, Lines Area, PECHS, and Saddar.
Major facilities such as Liaquat National Hospital, Aga Khan University Hospital, and Karachi Central Prison may also experience disruption in gas supply during the operation.
SSGC stated that consumers will be informed as soon as the work is completed. The company added that gas supply will be restored immediately after the successful completion of the project.
The utility provider requested residents to remain patient during the shutdown period. It also advised consumers to take necessary precautions before the temporary suspension begins.
Meanwhile, Karachi residents continue to face regular gas supply shutdowns in different parts of the city. According to the current schedule, gas remains unavailable from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Another nightly closure continues from 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM the next morning.
