Syed Amjad Zaidi, the speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), was ousted by a vote of no confidence on Wednesday. With 21 votes, a motion of no confidence was approved; Zaidi received just one. The no-confidence motion was approved with the support of the ruling party and its supporters.

Javed Manwa, a provincial minister, and Raja Zakaria, a senior provincial minister, tabled the proposal. After the no-trust vote was successful, Nazir Ahmed Advocate was chosen to serve as the next speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan. Zaidi was supposed to depart after serving his two and a half-year tenure.
According to sources, Speaker Syed Amjad Zaidi and Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed Advocate had already agreed on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
