Apple's New iOS 18 Offers App Locking And Screen Customization

Apple iOS 18 is launching with impressive new features, emphasizing Apple Intelligence. Significant updates include home screen customization, allowing users to place app icons freely and apply dark mode and color tints.

In iOS 18, users can organize apps into a locked “hidden apps” folder and individually secure apps for added protection. The Control Center gains more customization options with a new Controls Gallery offering additional control widgets.

Developers can now create custom controls for the gallery, and users can personalize the lock screen controls, replacing the camera and flashlight with other functions.

The Photos app receives a major redesign, featuring a unified view of the photo library, albums, and collections, which are automatically generated based on themes like “trips” and “today.”

The Messages app in iOS 18 adds support for RCS messaging for conversations with Android users, allows reactions to messages with any emoji, and lets users schedule messages. Additionally, a new end-to-end encrypted Messages via Satellite feature enables secure texting when offline.

Privacy remains a priority in iOS 18 with a new Passwords app for managing credentials and enhanced app locking features. Siri now offers more natural interactions, and Maps includes thousands of hiking trails and a Places Library for saving favorite locations.
