According to the military’s media wing, “CGS UK Army put a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada [martyrs’ memorials] upon arrival at the GHQ. Speaking to the ISPR, “the visiting dignitary recognized the sacrifices and accomplishments of the Pakistan Army in the fight against terrorism and efforts to bring peace and stability to the region.”
Further to the release, Gen. Sir Sanders also spoke with General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, earlier today at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
On Monday, the head of the British army travelled to Pakistan on a five-day “defense engagement” tour. The ISPR had claimed in a statement earlier this week that Gen. Sir Sanders’ visit comes over a year after Pakistan’s disastrous floods, which virtually inundated one-third of the nation and reportedly affected 33 million people.
It continued, “At the request of Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, the UK’s Ministry of Defense was actively involved in providing support for flood relief efforts, airlifting in eight boats and 10 portable generators.
The visit’s main objective will be to discuss bilateral military cooperation in response to emergencies caused by climate change.
