The Rawalpindi district administration has directed that no fuel be sold to motorcyclists who do not wear helmets.
According to a media source, CTO Taimoor Khan declared in a press statement that there would be no petrol for motorcyclists who did not wear helmets. Written orders have been issued in addition to displaying banners at petrol stations.
Khan revealed that petrol stations are being secretly monitored to verify that helmets are being used. He also stated that gas outlets that sell gasoline to motorcycles without helmets will face legal consequences.
Earlier this week, the provincial government issued a formal notification making helmets required. The most recent ‘no helmet, no fuel’ rule is an extension of that ruling.
To enforce the wearing of helmets, the rule was initially implemented under the previous government’s tenure. Even so, bikers got past the prohibition by borrowing helmets from one another at the petrol station.
In addition, the government lifted the prohibition due to widespread public and petrol station reaction. Time will tell if history repeats itself during the present administration’s tenure.
